Shame on McDonalds

Shame on McDonalds

Please, I beg of you please pay attention to this and stop feeding yourselves and your children, your children. I have never ate at McDonalds once over the past ten years. I have been in McDonalds, had coffee and got my kids a happy meal, maybe once a year as a treat during my parenting career. I know grandpa and auntie have taken my kids to McDonalds frequently in the past. This will NEVER happen again! If you read to the end,  you will be in utter shock and you too, will wake up and refuse to support McDonalds and other corporations! I am satisfied by my research that these are the facts, don’t take my word for it and do your own reserch draw your own conclusion I am convinced this is really happening. I have heard far too much eye witness testimony not to believe this, please, do not consume any fast food EVER get your meat from a farmer!

Disturbing Facts About McDonald’s

McDonald’s first quarter financial results on April 20 2013 showed that the global fast food chain generated more than six and a half billion during the period and that global comparable sales increased more than seven percent. There are plenty of facts about the company that you may find completely unexpected and very very disturbing and this restaurant giant has grown through the recession and recovery. McDonald’s’ twenty seven billion in revenue makes it the nintyth largest company in the world and the eight point seven billion in revenue from franchise stores alone, makes McDonald’s richer than Mongolia. It makes no sense to me that this so called restaraunt chain sells more than seventy five burgers every second. More shocking facts about America’s most popular fast food chain show McDonald’s’ daily customer traffic of sixty two million is more than the population of Great Britain, they also claim to feed sixty eight million people per day, that’s about one percent of the world’s population. Mind boggling, it is no wonder why so many people are suffering with disease and their is a disturbing emergency of childhood ailments globally.

The only place in the lower forty eight states that is more than a hundred miles from a McDonald’s is a barren plain in South Dakota and Americans alone consume one billion pounds of beef at McDonald’s in a year, the equivelent of five and a half million head of cattle. McDonald’s hires around one million workers in the US every year and the estimate from Fast Food Nation assumes a domestic workforce of about seven hundred thousand with a one hundred fifty percent  turnover rate. McDonald’s employee force worldwide is more than the population of Luxembourg and according to company estimates, one in every eight American workers has at one time been employed by McDonald’s. For the next three years, McDonald’s is going to open one restaurant every day in China. Sharon Stone worked at McDonald’s before she was famous and so have Shania Twain, Jay Leno, Rachel McAdams and Pink.

First Horse meat, then the mysterious “Pink slime”, Now Human meat? A shocking discovery has been made in an Oklahoma City McDonald’s meat factory and other McDonald’s meat factories nationwide. First Horse meat, then the mysterious “Pink slime”! Now What?  Now, Human meat?   The United States Department of Agriculture has seized McDonald’s production and shipping and will call for more meat factory inspections and restaurant inspections. Meat inspectors reportedly found, what appeared to be, Human meat stored in the meat factory freezers of an Oklahoma City meat factory and human meat already in trucks right outside the factory ready to be shipped to McDonald’s restaurants. Health inspectors immediately demanded inspection in various McDonald’s meat factories across the country and horrifyingly found human meat in about 90% of the factories inspected thus far.

Shame on McDonalds

The FBI is also investigating the factories. FBI agent Lloyd Harrison told Huzler reporters “The worst part is that it’s not only human meat, it’s child meat. the body parts that were found across the U.S. factories were deemed to small to be adult body parts, this is truly horrible”. The situation brings up many questions. How long have they been using human meat? Where did they get the children from? Were they already dead when brought into factories? Investigators and Inspectors are currently being deployed for intensive investigations. McDonald’s is the world’s largest distributor of toys, with one included in twenty percent of all sales. This video may be shocking for you it was acctually a missing piece of the puzzle for me, I have learned all about the illuminati and how the free masons are really satanic and participate in blood rituals. I heard about kids being snatch by the satanists, cops and congress being in on it and the Bohemian groove sacrifices and now I know what they do with the bodies, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PEOPLE WAKE UP!

Are You Doing It Wrong?

Are You Doing It Wrong?

Doing what wrong you ask? Well, the most frequent, important and often undetectable thing that we are all engaged in, at all times of the day and night. It’s thinking of course, we all do it and when I look around and find few smiling faces, it is obvious to me that many of us are doing it all wrong. The amazing bodies and resources we have been provided with on this planet, leads me to believe that we were put here to prosper and feel as much joy as is possible. So many people are not living passionate lives and it is my belief that our way of thinking is what has led people away from the happiness, we are all meant to achieve.

As human beings, we generally think of ourselves as rational creatures yet, we are unaware of ways that our thinking is irrational and biased. We think logically, make decisions based on the best interests of ourselves and others. Humans do the things we need to do in order  to thrive in the world, our brains evolved with handy shortcuts to help us identify threats and make quick judgments. And even in the modern world, where we don’t face threats to our survival every day, they’re still very much present, and they shape the way we experience the world and ourselves.

There are common thinking errors and cognitive biases that you may not even be aware of  that shape the way we view ourselves and the world.

Most people love to focus on the negative.

burnt toast

According to psychologist Rick Hanson, author of Hardwiring Happiness, the brain is like velcro for negative experience and teflon for positive ones. The brain is constantly scanning for threats, an advantage as we evolved, and even though we no longer deal with the threat of being eaten by wild animals, our brain hasn’t let go of its sensitivity to perceived threats.

One of the most basic thinking mistakes is is believing a false hypothesis to be true, often by mistaking correlation for causality and while it does lead to thought errors, thinking this way may have given us an evolutionary advantage.

Causal thinking evolved to allow people to understand and control their environment, to be able to predict that, for example, if you eat a blue mushroom you will die.

Yet we often don’t see what’s right in front of our face.

cover eyesIf you think you’re present and mindful to your environment, it may be true to a certain extent, you’re probably not as aware as you think. In a now-famous 1998 study, researchers from Harvard and Kent State University targeted college campus pedestrians to see how much they noticed about their immediate surroundings. It seems that we rely on memory significantly more than we think we do, and that our visual perception may not be as reliable as we think.

People are heavily biased towards things that agree with them.

Brains have quite a distaste for conflict and disagreement and  go to great lengths to avoid it, we gravitate towards things that we agree with or that reinforce our existing beliefs, and avoid those that oppose our beliefs. We have such a hard time changing our mind about things, it is mentally taxing for us to let go of what we think we know and start collecting evidence for a new hypothesis, bias can lead us into error.

We tend to magnify our mistakes and flaws, thinking that people are paying more attention to them than they really are. This is referred to in psychology as “Spotlight Effect” and it is the tendency to think that other people notice things about us more than they actually do, it is basically the result of our naturally egocentric worldview.

“We all are the center of our own universes,” Heflick wrote in Psychology Today. “This is not to say we are arrogant, or value ourselves more than others, but rather, that our entire existence is from our own experiences and perspective…. But other people not only lack the knowledge of, for instance, the stain that you have, but they are the center of their own universes too, and in turn, are focused on other things.”

We put our subjects under a harsh and slanted spotlight.

People’s decisions are highly subject to our personally held biases.

We’re faced with a feast of choices for even the most mundane decisions, besides the plethora of consumer goods to choose from, we can select a movie to watch from the hundreds available on Netflix, and the options for what to tweet or share on Facebook are practically infinite. Despite this illusion of freedom, all of these choices may be skewing our choices and leading our minds into errors in judgement. Sometimes, having too many options keeps us from making any decisions at all and when we do not pick something, we’re more likely to regret or be disappointed by it. The more options there are, the easier it is to regret anything at all that is disappointing. Regrets subtract from the satisfaction that one would have gotten out of the decision made, even if it was a good decision. The more options there are, the easier it is to regret anything at all that is disappointing.

We are unable to put full trust in our memories.

Our common error is allowing our view of the past to be influenced by our emotions in the present, because your anger, or any other emotion you’re experiencing, will change the way you think about the past. Most of us like to think that we recall events with accuracy, yet we don’t need psychologists to tell us that, our memory is subject to a long list of biases and errors.

We are all partial to our own kind.

Both historical events and everyday experience demonstrate, again and again, our favouritism towards members of our own social groups. Human beings have a well-documented cognitive bias towards members of their own clans, and this even goes beyond ethnic, social or nationality groupings. Psychologists have found in group bias to exist even among randomly assigned groups. Favouritism of our own can sometimes, although not necessarily, lead to judging, stereotyping and hostility towards other groups. In short, it is important to closely examine our thinking and always be evolving towards improvement in these areas of thinking. In order to move forward and evolve to a higher state of consciousness we must eliminate our sensitivities towards threats and examine our biases preventing them from clouding our decision making capabilities. Together we are making the world a better place.

12 Nutrition Myths

12 Nutrition Myths

A lot of times the health information out there is derived from misguided studies, the truth is it is extremely individual and each of us is on our own path. These are thirteen myths I believe are out there today just to help you decide what is right for you!

Myth #1 Saturated Fat is Unhealthy

For decades, people have believed that eating saturated fat can increase the risk of heart disease and this idea has been the cornerstone of mainstream nutrition recommendations. However, studies published recently prove that saturated fat is completely harmless. A study published in 2010 looked at data from a total of twenty one studies that included nearly three hundred fifty individuals, found absolutely no association between saturated fat consumption and the risk of heart disease. Multiple other studies confirm these findings saturated fat really has nothing to do with heart disease. The “war” on fat was based on an unproven theory that somehow became common knowledge. Saturated fat raises HDL or the good cholesterol. It also changes the LDL cholesterol from small, dense LDL which is very, very bad to large LDL, which is benign. There is literally no reason to fear butter, meat or coconut oil these foods are perfectly healthy!

The Truth: New studies show that saturated fat does not increase your risk of cardiovascular disease it actually raises the good cholesterol and changes the bad cholesterol to a benign subtype.

Myth #2 Eating a Lot of Protein is Bad For Your Health

Many people believe that eating a lot of protein can damage your bones, it is true that increased protein can increase calcium excretion from the bones in the short term, the long term studies show the exact opposite effect. Eating more protein is associated with improved bone density and a lower risk of fracture in old age one more example of where blindly following conventional nutrition advice will lead to the opposite result. Another myth is that protein increases strain on the kidneys and contributes to kidney failure. The reality is more complicated than that, it is true that people with established kidney disease should reduce protein intake, studies in healthy individuals show that protein is perfectly safe. Protein consumed by healthy individuals, actually reduces two of the main risk factors for kidney disease which are diabetes and high blood pressure. Eating a high protein diet has many other benefits, including increased muscle mass, reduced body fat and a lower risk of diseases like cardiovascular disease.

The Truth: Studies show that protein has positive effects on bone health in the long run and does not raise the risk of kidney disease in healthy individuals, so eating a high protein diet has many important health benefits.

Myth #3 Everyone Should be Eating Whole Wheat

Commonly mistaken as a health food, evidence is mounting that wheat can contribute to various health problems, this includes “heart-healthy” whole wheat. Wheat is the biggest source of gluten in the diet and new studies are showing that a significant percentage of the population may be sensitive to it . In sensitive individuals, gluten can contribute to various symptoms like digestive issues, pain, bloating, stool inconsistency, fatigue and may damage the lining of the intestine. There are some controlled trials associating wheat gluten with various disorders of the brain, including schizophrenia, autism and cerebellar ataxia, not only that but a controlled trial in humans showed that whole wheat increased various risk factors for cardiovascular disease in as little as twelve weeks. Even though whole wheat is less unhealthy than refined wheat, the best choice would be to skip the wheat altogether.

The Truth: Wheat is the biggest source of gluten in the diet and many studies are showing that wheat, including whole wheat, can contribute to various health problems.

Myth #4 Coffee is Bad For You

Coffee has gotten a bad reputation in the past and it is true that coffee can mildly elevate blood pressure in the short term. However, long term studies show that coffee may actually reduce your risk of some serious diseases. Many studies have examined the effects of caffeine on the brain, showing that it can improve mood, memory, reaction time, vigilance and overall brain function. You may be surprised to hear that coffee is also loaded with antioxidants, it is the biggest source of antioxidants in the modern diet, outranking both fruits and vegetables, combined. Coffee drinkers have up to a sixty seven percent  lower risk of Type II diabetes, have up to an eighty percent lower risk of liver diseases like cirrhosis, and are at a much lower risk of getting Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Caffeine also helps to mobilize fatty acids from the fat tissues, which boosts metabolism and increases exercise performance by an average of twelve percent.  If you’re sensitive to caffeine or it tends to disrupt your sleep, then green tea has many of the same health benefits but a smaller amount of caffeine.

The Truth: Coffee contains very large amounts of antioxidants and studies show that coffee drinkers are at a much lower risk of developing many serious diseases.

Myth #5 Meat is Bad For You

For some very strange reason, many people are now blaming meat for diseases like heart disease and type II diabetes, which are relatively new, this does not make any sense at all and the studies don’t support it. Blaming new health problems on old foods has never seemed right to me and an  example of that is meat which humans have been eating throughout evolution, for millions of years. While it is true that processed meat is associated with all sorts of diseases, the same is not true for unprocessed red meat. A massive review from 2010 that looked at data from twenty studies with a more than a million individuals revealed that unprocessed red meat had no significant association with either cardiovascular disease or type II diabetes. Other studies that included hundreds of thousands of people agree with this processed meat is bad, but unprocessed red meat is harmless, even though some observational studies have found a link between meat consumption and cancer, review studies that look at the data as a whole show that the effect is weak. Let’s not forget that meat is incredibly nutritious. It is loaded with vitamins, minerals, quality proteins, healthy fats and various lesser known nutrients that are important for the body.

The Truth: Studies show that unprocessed red meat does not raise your risk of cardiovascular disease or diabetes and there is a very weak association with cancer, that is most likely caused by excessive cooking and not the meat itself.

Myth#6 The Healthiest Diet is a Low-Fat, High-Carb Diet

Since the year 1977, the health authorities have told everyone to eat a low-fat, high-carb diet, this was based on political decisions and low quality studies that have since been thoroughly debunked. Interestingly, the obesity epidemic started at almost the exact same time the low-fat guidelines first came out and since then, several massive studies have examined the health effects of the low-fat diet. In the Women’s Health Initiative, the biggest study on diet ever conducted, nearly fifty thousand women were to either a low-fat diet or continue to eat the standard western diet and after a study period of over seven years, the low-fat group weighed about a pound less and there was no decrease in cardiovascular disease or cancer. Other studies agree with these findings this diet is notoriously ineffective, even though it may work for healthy and active individuals for people with obesity, metabolic syndrome or diabetes, the low-fat diet can be downright harmful.

The Truth: The low-fat, high-carb diet recommended by the mainstream nutrition organizations is a miserable failure and has been repeatedly proven to be ineffective.

Myth #7 Refined Seed and Vegetable Oils Are Healthy

Some studies show that polyunsaturated fats lower your risk of heart disease, for this reason, many have recommended that we increase our consumption of vegetable oils like soybean oil, sunflower oil and corn oil. However, it is important to realize that there are different types of polyunsaturated fats, mainly Omega-3s and Omega-6s and while we get Omega-3s from fish and grass-fed animals, the main sources of Omega-6 fatty acids are processed seed and vegetable oils. The thing is we need to get Omega-3s and Omega-6s in a certain balance and most people are eating too little Omega-3 and way too much Omega-6. Studies show that excess Omega-6 fatty acids can increase inflammation in the body, which is known to play a causal role in many serious diseases and most importantly, seed and vegetable oils are associated with a significantly increased risk of heart disease the biggest killer in the world. If you want to lower your risk of disease, eat your Omega-3s and avoid the refined seed and vegetable oils, it’s important to keep in mind that this does not apply to other plant oils like coconut oil and olive oil, which are low in Omega-6 and extremely healthy.

The Truth: Excess consumption of refined seed and vegetable oils can increase inflammation in the body and dramatically raise your risk of cardiovascular disease.

Myth #8 Low-Carb Diets Are Ineffective and Downright Harmful

Low-carb diets have been popular for several decades, because they are high in fat, they have been demonized by nutritionists and the media. They repeatedly claim that such diets are “unproven” or downright dangerous, however, since the year 2002, over twenty randomized controlled trials have examined the effects of low-carb diets on various aspects of health. Almost every one of those studies agrees that low-carb diets lead to significant decreases in blood pressure and an increase HDL the good kind of cholesterol and decrease triglycerides much more than low-fat diets. Low-carb diets where people are allowed to eat as much as they want cause more weight loss than low-fat diets that are calorie restricted . Low-carb diets have powerful positive effects on type II diabetes, significantly lowering blood sugar and reducing the need for medication and if anything, low-carb diets appear to be easier to stick to than low-fat diets, probably because people don’t have to restrict calories and be hungry all the time. Low-carb diets are unnecessary for people who are healthy and active, studies show that they are extremely useful against obesity, metabolic syndrome and type II diabetes which are some of the biggest health problems in the world.

The Truth: Low-carb diets are the easiest, healthiest and most effective way to lose weight and reverse metabolic disease and it is pretty much a scientific fact at this point in  history.

Myth #9 Everyone Should be Cutting Back on Sodium

The health authorities constantly tell us to reduce sodium in the diet in order to reduce blood pressure. While it is true that reducing sodium can cause mild reductions in blood pressure, especially in individuals who have elevated blood pressure to begin with, it’s important to keep in mind that elevated blood pressure itself doesn’t kill anyone directly, it is a risk factor, not necessarily a cause of disease. Many studies have examined whether sodium restriction has any effect on cardiovascular disease or the risk of death and these studies consistently found no effect even in individuals with high blood pressure. Other studies show that too little sodium can also be harmful, leading to adverse effects such as insulin resistance, elevated LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, as well as an increased risk of death in type II diabetics.

The Truth: Overall, there is no evidence that healthy people need to cut back on sodium, despite sodium restriction being able to mildly reduce blood pressure, this does not lead to improved health outcomes.

Myth #10 Sugar is Bad it Contains “Empty” Calories

Many think that sugar is unhealthy just because it contains “empty” calories, this is true sugar contains a lot of calories, with no essential nutrients, this is really just the tip of the iceberg. Sugar, mainly due to its high content of fructose, can have severe adverse effects on metabolism and set us up for rapid weight gain and metabolic disease. Large amounts of fructose, get turned into fat in the liver and is either shipped out as VLDL particles, or lodges in the liver to cause non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Studies in humans show that excess fructose can lead to insulin resistance, elevated blood sugars, elevated triglycerides, increased small, dense LDL and increased abdominal obesity in as little as ten weeks. Fructose also doesn’t lower the hunger hormone ghrelin and doesn’t affect satiety in the brain in the same way as glucose, in this way, sugar causes a biochemical drive in the brain to eat more and get fat. This applies to fructose from added sugars, and not the natural sugars found in fruits. When consumed in excess, added sugar is associated with multiple diseases, including obesity, heart disease, type II diabetes, even cancer  and sugar is probably the single worst ingredient in the modern diet.

The Truth: The harmful effects of excess sugar go way beyond empty calories, sugar can have severe adverse effects on metabolism, leading to weight gain and many serious diseases.

Myth #11 Fat Makes You Fat

It seems to make sense that eating fat would make you fat, after all, the stuff that is making people soft and puffy is fat, eating more fat should give us more of it, however, it turns out that it isn’t that simple. Despite fat having more calories per gram than protein or carbohydrates, diets that are high in fat do not make people fat. This depends completely on the context. A diet that is high in carbs and fat will make you fat, it’s not because of the fat. In fact studies consistently show that diets that are high in fat and low in carbs lead to much more weight loss than diets that are low in fat.

The Truth:  A diet that is high in carbs and fat will make you fat, it’s not because of the fat.

Myth #12 Eggs Are Bad For Your Health

Eggs are so incredibly nutritious that they’re often called nature’s multivitamin, the nutrients in them are enough to turn a single cell into an entire baby chicken. However, eggs have been demonized in the past because they contain a large amount of cholesterol, which was believed to increase the risk of heart disease. The truth is that despite being high in cholesterol, eggs don’t really raise the bad cholesterol in the blood. In fact, eggs primarily raise the good type of cholesterol. Despite all the warnings about eggs in the past few decades, studies show that they are not associated with heart disease and if anything, eggs are pretty much a perfect food for humans. Eggs are loaded with protein, healthy fats, vitamins, minerals and unique antioxidants that protect the eyes, they are also an excellent source of Choline, a nutrient that is very important for the health of the brain and about ninety of people aren’t getting enough of . Despite being a high in fat food, eating eggs for breakfast is proven to cause significant weight loss compared to a breakfast of bagels.

The Truth: Eggs are among the most nutritious foods on the planet and do not raise your risk of heart disease and eggs for breakfast can help you lose weight.

Top Ten Food Events of 2013

Top Ten Food Events of 2013

Here is a list of of my top ten food moments from 2013.

1) Whole Foods announces that all GMOs in its stores will be labeled by 2018

Unwilling to wait for a federal labeling law, Whole Foods decided to take matters into its own hands and made the announcement in March of this year. The importance of this decision cannot be underestimated as it has already started an shift in the non-GMO and organic supply chain. Without question, this has to be the most important event of the year and its reverberations will be felt for decades to come.

2) I-522 fundraising dinner at Natural Products Expo East

At Natural Products Expo East in Baltimore, a dinner to raise money for I-522, the campaign for GMO-labeling in Washington state.  The sold-out dinner was packed with organic food industry executives, CEOs, and founders, and two amazing GMO-activists who spoke: Birke Baehr, the fourteen year-old YouTube sensation who made a name for himself at a TedX talk a few years ago, and Rachel Parent, a fourteen year-old and Canada’s most high profile GMO-activist, who successfully debated Shark Tank star Kevin O’Leary on national TV.

3) Launching Suja Elements

Suja, the biggest success story in the organic industry this year, they launched their new line of smoothie drinks called Elements. It is a very innovative product and the first certified organic, HPP, pressed juice smoothie beverage of its kind. Not only are the people who run this company incredibly impressive, they are also ultra-committed to giving back. Suja sponsored the I-522 fundraiser dinner at Natural Products Expo East, and $.20 for every bottle of Suja Elements sold will be donated to a different non-profit, including Food Democracy Now!, Citizens for GMO-labeling, Teens Turning Green, Whole Planet Foundation, and many other great ones.

4) GMO-labeling passes in two states

This year, Connecticut and Maine were the first two states to pass GMO-labeling laws. Even though these laws come with stipulations that bordering states must pass their own laws as well in order for these bills to kick in, having two states with GMO-labeling laws is a great, great start for the non-GMO movement.

5) David Bronner coming up HUGE for I-522

The amount of time and money that David Bronner and his company, Dr. Bronner’s, donated to I-522, the GMO-labeling initiative in Washington state, was absolutely incredible. By far, he was the largest donor by pledging $2.67M out of a total $8M raised and he also had special packaging made for the campaign.

6) On Fox News Channel talking about GMO-labeling

I was shocked that a national news network Fox would allow the truth to be told about the health risks of GMOs. During the GMO report aired by mainstream media, Max Goldberg states: “No long-term studies have ever been done on humans, but when you look at the studies that have been done on animals, it’s pretty appalling.” Collective Evolution ended up calling the segment  “the most hard-hitting GMO report ever aired by the mainstream media.”

7) Whole Foods kicking Chobani off of its shelves

Is there anyone who didn’t just love when Whole Foods decided to kick Chobani off its shelves for refusing to stop using GMOs in its products? Chobani can spin it anyway it wants, this is very damaging to its brand. Also, this move sends a real message to Whole Foods’ vendors that they better get serious about non-GMO or there will be real consequences. We are very, very fortunate that Errol Schweizer (below), Executive Global Grocery Coordinator for Whole Foods, is such an amazing and tireless advocate for non-GMO, organic, and GMO-labeling.

8) Pressed Organic Juice Directory launches

The idea for a Pressed Organic Juice Directory was one that grew out of a desire to find pressed organic juice whenever someone travels. There wasn’t one centralized place that had all of the pressed organic places around the world, the directory allows you to meet and promote organic juice entrepreneurs across the globe. Right now, there are more than 1,200 listings with 10 countries represented.

9) Kraft doesn’t donate to I-522

Last year, every single major food company donated money to defeat Proposition 37, California’s GMO-labeling initiative. This year in Washington state’s campaign to label GMOs, I-522, all of those same companies donated money again. That is, all of them except one, Kraft. The fact that one of the country’s biggest food conglomerates didn’t financially support this initiative is very significant and is largely due to the tremendous backlash it faced for using synthetic ingredients in its Mac & Cheese. Not wanting any more negative publicity, Kraft bowed out of trying to defeat I-522.

10) Hawaii passes pesticide disclosure and GMO-planting restrictions

For those who don’t know, the fields of Hawaii have been used for decades as the experimental laboratory for all of the major GMO-companies. This is where they run their tests, contaminate organic and non-GMO crops, and poison the land and water with their toxic chemicals. Unable to tolerate GMOs and pesticides ruining their paradise, citizens of Hawaii have been staging a revolt for the past few years, and a victory was finally achieved a few months ago when the island of Kauai passed Bill 2491. This bill will require companies to disclose which pesticides they are spraying and where, farmers to disclose which GMO-crops they are growing, and it creates buffer zones between fields sprayed with pesticides and schools, parks, medical facilities and private residences. Several weeks after Kauai passed this measure, the Big Island signed Bill 113 into law, which prohibits biotech companies from operating on the Big Island and banning farmers from growing any new genetically-engineered crops.

Looking back, 2013 was a fantastic year and the big takeaway is that we must continue to have our voices heard. We can never ever give up until we have the type of food policy that is fair and beneficial to our people and our planet.

Ten Banned Foods

Ten American Foods Banned In Other Countries

Americans are slowly realizing that food sold in the US doesn’t just taste different than foods sold in other countries, it’s created differently. Sadly, many U.S. foods are BANNED in Europe — and for good reason. Take a look at the plummeting health of Americans; what role might toxic foods play in skyrocketing disease rates?

One:  Flame Retardant Drinks

Mountain Dew and other drinks in the United States contain the synthetic chemical brominated vegetable oil (BVO), originally patented as a flame retardant. The FDA has changed their mind on BVO’s safety, originally classifying it as ‘generally recognized as safe,’ then reversing that call, now defining it as an ‘interim food additive,’ a category reserved for questionable substances used in food. BVO bioaccumulates in human tissue and breast milk; animal studies report reproductive and behavioral problems. Bromine alters the central nervous and endocrine systems and promotes iodine deficiency, causing skin rashes, acne, loss of appetite, fatigue and cardiac arrhythmias.

Look for Zevia it is a new soft drink sweetened with the Stevia plant

Two:  Farm-Raised Salmon

Farm-raised fish is usually fed an unnatural diet of genetically engineered grains, antibiotics and chemicals unsafe for humans, also in order to mask the resulting grayish flesh, they’re given toxic and potentially eyesight-damaging synthetic astaxanthin. To determine wild from farm-raised salmon, which are sold in most restaurants, wild sockeye gets its red color from natural astaxanthin and carotenoids, the white “fat strips” are thin, meaning it’s lean, pale pink fish and wide fat marks are a sign of farmed salmon.

Avoid Atlantic Salmon Look for “Alaskan” or “sockeye,” which is illegal to farm

Three:  Genetically Engineered Papaya

Most Hawaiian papaya is genetically engineered to be ringspot virus-resistant, research shows animals fed genttically engineered foods like corn and soy suffer intestinal damage, multiple-organ damage, massive tumors, birth defects, premature death and nearly complete sterility by the third generation.

Avoid papaya from Hawaii

Four:  Ractopamine-Tainted Meat

About forty five percent of United States pigs, thirty percent of cattle and an unknown percentage of turkeys are plumped with the asthma drug ractopamine before slaughter. Up to twenty percent of ractopamine is still there when you buy it. In animals, it’s linked to reducedreproductive function, increased mastitis and increased death. It damages the human cardiovascular system and may cause hyperactivity, chromosomal abnormalities and behavioral changes. Currently, United States meats aren’t even tested for it. Ractopamine-laced meats are banned in one hundred sixty different countries!

Look for organic meats and choose quality over quantity

Five:  Processed Foods and Artificial Food Dyes

Flavorings and colors are added to foods in the United States, many of which are banned in other countries. Red 40 and yellow 6 are also suspected of causing an allergy-like hypersensitivity reaction in children. The Center for Science in the Public Interest reports that some dyes are also “contaminated with known carcinogens.” In countries where these food dyes are banned, companies like Kraft employ natural colorants like paprika extract and beetroot. Boxed Mac & Cheese, cheddar flavored crackers, Jell-O and many kids’ cereals contain red 40, yellow 5, yellow 6 and/or blue 2, all of which can cause behavioral problems as well as cancer, birth defects and other health problems in laboratory animals.

Avoid processed food buy whole organic foods

Six:  Olestra/Olean

Olestra, or Olean, created by Procter & Gamble, is a calorie- and cholesterol-free fat substitute in fat-free snacks like chips and french fries. Three years ago, Time Magazine named it one of the worst 50 inventions ever. MSN noted:

“Not only did a 2011 study from Purdue University conclude rats fed potato chips made with Olean gained weight … several reports of adverse intestinal reactions to the fake fat include diarrhea, cramps and leaky bowels. And because it interferes  with the absorption of fat soluble vitamins such as A, D, E and K, the FDA requires these vitamins be added to any product made with Olean or olestra.”

Avoid snack foods eat whole foods

Seven:  Arsenic-Laced Chicken

Arsenic-based drugs are approved in animal feed in the United States because they cause animals to grow quicker and meats products to look pinker. The FDA says arsenic-based drugs are safe safe because they contain organic arsenic, which can turn into inorganic arsenic, once run through contaminated manure and then it leaches into drinking water.

Look for grass fed meats

Eight:  Bread with Potassium Bromate

Bread, hamburger and hotdog buns are “enriched” with potassium bromate, or bromide, linked to kidney and nervous system damage, thyroid problems, gastrointestinal discomfort and cancer. While commercial baking companies claim they render the dough more tolerable to bread hooks, Pepperidge Farm and others use only unbromated flour without experiencing “structural problems.”

Bake your own breads with organic flour

Nine:  Preservatives BHA and BHT

BHA (butylated hydroxyanisole) and BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene) are common preservatives in foods like cereal, nut mixes, chewing gum, butter spread, meat and beer. The National Toxicology Program’s 2011 Report on Carcinogens says BHA may trigger allergic reactions and hyperactivity and “is reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen.”

Look for fresh local foods that do not require preservatives

Ten:  Milk and Dairy Products Made with rBGH

Recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH), a synthetic version of natural bovine hormone is injected into cows to increase milk production. Monsanto developed it from genetically engineered E. coli bacteria. It’s banned in at least thirty other countriest, because it converts normal tissue cells into cancerous ones, increasing colorectal, prostate, breast cancer risks, and injected cows suffer exorbitant rates of mastitis, contaminating milk with pus and antibiotics. The Cancer Prevention Coalition, has been trying for years to affect a dairy industry ban of rBGH, resubmitting a petition to FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg in January 2010, but the FDA sticks to its false position that rBGH-treated milk is no different than milk from untreated cows.

Look for products labeled “rBGH-free” or “No rBGH.”

If you value your health, avoid foods containing harmful ingredients and ditch processed foods entirely – even if they are permitted in the US.  Opt for fresh whole foods, organic, and buy local. Vote with your money and choose not to buy these foods.

Healthy Meat?

Healthy Meat?

dreamhealer adam

If sodium nitrite is so dangerous to humans, why do the FDA and USDA continue to allow this cancer causing chemical to be used? The answer is that food industry interests now dominate the actions by government regulators. The USDA, for example, tried to ban sodium nitrite in the late 1970′s but was overridden by the meat industry, it insisted the chemical was safe and accused the USDA of trying to “ban bacon.” Today, the corporations that dominate American food and agricultural interests hold tremendous influence over the FDA and USDA.

The World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) has just completed a detailed review of links between diet and cancer. Its conclusion is: Processed meats are too dangerous for human consumption and consumers should stop buying and eating all processed meat products forever. Processed meats include bacon, sausage, hot dogs, sandwich meat, packaged ham, pepperoni, salami and all meat used in frozen prepared meals. The reason for this conclusion is because they are usually manufactured with a carcinogenic ingredient known as sodium nitrite, which is used as a color fixer by meat companies to turn packaged meats a bright red color so they look fresh. Sodium nitrite also results in the formation of cancer causing nitrosamines in the human body and this leads to a sharp increase in cancer risk for those who eat them.

A University of Hawaii study found that processed meats increase the risk of pancreatic cancer by sixty seven percent, another study revealed that every fifty grams of processed meat consumed daily increases the risk of colorectal cancer by twenty one percent. These cancer risks do not come from eating fresh, non-processed meats, they only appear in people who regularly consume processed meat products containing sodium nitrite. Sodium nitrite appears predominantly in red meat products and you won’t find it in chicken or fish products. Here’s a short list of food items to check carefully for sodium nitrite and monosodium glutamate, another dangerous additive: Beef jerky, Bacon, Sausage, Hot dogs, Sandwich meat, Frozen pizza with meat, Canned soups with meat, Frozen meals with meat, Ravioli and meat pasta foods, Kid’s meals containing red meat, Sandwich meat used at popular restaurants, Nearly all red meats sold at public schools, restaurants, hospitals, hotels and theme parks.

Consumers are offered no real protection from dangerous chemicals intentionally added to foods, medicines and personal care products. You can protect yourself and your family from the dangers of processed meats by following a few simple rules. Always read ingredient labels, don’t buy anything made with sodium nitrite or monosodium glutamate, don’t eat red meats served by restaurants, schools, hospitals, hotels or other institutions.Eat more fresh produce with every meal. There is evidence that natural vitamin C found in citrus fruits and exotic berries (like camu camu) helps prevent the formation of cancer-causing nitrosamines. Protecting yourself from the devastating health effects of sodium nitrite in processed meats is easy to do by simply avoiding eating processed meats altogether. Or look at the picture and video below and you may never want to eat any meat at all!

Sorry McDonalds

Sorry McDonald’s

Sorry McDonald's

Sorry McDonald’s, Chef Jamie Oliver has just won a battle against one of the largest fast food chains in the world. The franchise announced it will change its recipe after Jamie Oliver showed the world how McDonald’s hamburgers are made, according to Oliver, the fatty parts of beef are subject to ammonium hydroxide and used in the filling of the burger. Before this process the food is deemed unfit for human consumption. Jamie Oliver calls it “the pink slime process.” “Why would any sensible human being put meat filled with ammonia in the mouths of their children?” he asked, “Basically, we’re taking a product that would be sold in the cheapest way for dogs, and after this process, is being given to human beings.” Jamie Oliver is waging a war against the fast food industry. The food industry uses ammonium hydroxide as an anti-microbial agent in meats, which has allowed McDonald’s to use otherwise “inedible meat.” and because ammonium hydroxide is considered part of the “component in a production procedure” by the USDA, consumers may not know when the chemical is in their food. Besides the low quality of the meat, the ammonium hydroxide is harmful to health, Jamie Oliver demonstrates to children how nuggets are made and after selecting the best parts of the chicken, the remains of fat, skin and internal organs are processed for these fried foods. The company, Arcos Dorados, the franchise manager in Latin America, said such a procedure is not practiced in the region. The same applies to the product in Ireland and the UK, where they use meat from local suppliers. In the United States, Burger King and Taco Bell had already abandoned the use of ammonia in their products. The MacDonald’s franchise denied that the decision to change the recipe is related to Jamie Oliver’s campaign. On the official website of McDonald’s, the company claims that their meat is cheap because, while serving many people every day, they are able to buy from their suppliers at a lower price, and offer the best quality products. On the site, McDonald’s also admitted that they have abandoned the beef filler from its burger patties, so this committment to quality is a new thing for McDonald’s?

Healthy Food?

Healthy Food?

I read an article defending the eating of tilapia said to avoid the fish that came from China. Also, I had just returned home from buying four bags of frozen tilapia for the price of one. Sure enough, on the top of the bags, it read “farm raised”, and on the bottom in small print it said, “China”. I recently saw a Food inspector on TV… He said he had lived overseas and he had seen the filthy conditions their foods are raised and processed in. It is enough to make you throw up. Some foreign workers have to wear masks as they work in these places, because the food is so rotten and filthy, it makes them want to throw up. Many of their Fish on Fish Farms are fed Raw sewage daily. He said he has seen so much filth throughout their food growing and processing that he would “never” eat any of it. They raise this filth , put some food coloring and some flavorings on it, then they ship it for YOU to consume and feed to YOUR families. They have no Food & Safety Inspectors. They ship it to you to buy and poison your families and friends. Imported food we eat and the junk we buy Green Giant frozen vegetables are from China , and so are most of Europe’s Best. Arctic Gardens are Okay. So is Birdseye. Never buy the grocery store garlic unless it is clearly marked from USA or Canada, the other stuff is grown in people poop (even worse than chicken poop). China is the largest producer of garlic in the world U.S. is next. Buy only local honey, much honey is shipped in huge containers from China and re-packed here. Cold-FX is grown and packed in China and is full of fecal bacteria. Doesn’t work anyway. If the country of origin is not clearly marked beware. If produce, ask an employee. Watch out for packages which state “prepared for”, “packed by” or “imported by”. I don’t understand the lack of mandatory labeling, especially the produce. The country of origin should be clearly shown on the item in the store. I go to the local farmers’ markets in season and keep a wary eye open the rest of the year. Please read this very carefully, and read to the very bottom.
healthy food
It’s important for all of us. How is it possible to ship food from China cheaper than having it produced in the U.S. or Canada? FOR EXAMPLE THE “OUR FAMILY” BRAND OF MANDARIN ORANGES SAYS RIGHT ON THE CAN ‘FROM CHINA ‘. SO, FOR A FEW MORE CENTS, BUY THE GOLD BRAND OR THE DOLE IS FROM CALIFORNIA Beware, Costco sells canned peaches and pears in a plastic jar that come from China. ALL “HIGH LINER” AND MOST OTHER FROZEN FISH PRODUCTS COME FROM CHINA OR INDONESIA. THE PACKAGE MAY SAY “PACIFIC SALMON” ON THE FRONT, BUT LOOK FOR THE SMALL PRINT. MOST OF THESE PRODUCTS COME FROM FISH FARMS IN THE ORIENT WHERE THERE ARE NO REGULATIONS ON WHAT IS FED TO THESE FISH. Recently The Montreal Gazette had an article by the Canadian Government on how Chinese feed the fish: They suspend chicken wire crates over the fish ponds, and the fish feed on chicken poo. If you search the Internet about what the Chinese feed their fish, you’ll be alarmed; e.g., growth hormones, expired anti-biotic from humans. Never buy any type of fish or shellfish that comes from these countries: Vietnam, China, Check this out personally. I did. Steinfeld’s Pickles are made in India – just as bad! Another example is in canned mushrooms. No-Name brand came from Indonesia. Also check those little fruit cups. They used to be made in Canada in the Niagara region until about 2 years ago. They are now packaged in China ! While the Chinese export inferior and even toxic products, dangerous toys, and goods to be sold in North American markets, the media wrings its hands! Seventy percent of North Americans believe that the trading privileges afforded to the Chinese should be suspended! Why do you need the government to suspend trading privileges? SIMPLY DO IT YOURSELF, CANADA AND THE U.S. Simply look on the bottom of every product you buy, and if it says ‘Made in China’ or ‘PRC’ (and that now includes Hong Kong ), simply choose another product, or none at all. You will be amazed at how dependent you are on Chinese products, and you will be equally amazed at what you can do without. THINK ABOUT THIS: If 200 million North Americans refuse to buy just $20 each of Chinese goods, that’s a billion dollar trade imbalance resolved in our favor fast! The downside? Some Canadian and American businesses will feel a temporary pinch from having foreign stockpiles of inventory. Just one month of trading losses will hit the Chinese for eight percent of their North American exports. Then they will at least have to ask themselves if the benefits of their arrogance and lawlessness are worth it. START NOW and don’t stop. Send this to everybody you know. Let’s show them that we are intelligent, and NOBODY can take us for granted.
